Cyd Charrise died this week.

The greatest female Hollywood dancer died 17 June 2008. Cyd Charrise was the best female partner of the two greastest male Hollywood dancers (Astaire and Kelly). She appeared with Astaire in "The Band Wagon" and Kelly in "Singin' in the Rain". Charisse was my personal favorite as female dancer. Her amazing talent went beyond dance: she could act in serious drama, and also in comedy. She is really great in "Silk Stockings" (also with Astaire) in which she cast as the uptight Communist who goes to Paris to check up on three commissars have been dispatched to Paris to reclaim a defecting Soviet composer. She is fantastic in her first big dance scene "Red Blues", in which she completely dominates the supporting cast of 25 male dancers with her ability and presence!
