
Happy birthday Macintosh!
"Personal computing started 25 years ago today." It is hard to believe that my current graduate student was not born then! It is well documented that Steve Jobs visited Xerox PARC in 1979 and saw the mouse and a GUI. He gets the credit for understanding how revolutionary this would be for the World, and bringing it to the market place. Apple tried to stop Microsoft from "copying" this innovation, but lost in the courtroom, giving rise to Windoz. Since the core of Apple (pun intended) is Steve Jobs' character and taste, that loss was good for the World, as Apple will always tie its OS to its hardware.
With the rise of the iPod and iPhone in the USA, using an Apple product is no longer unusual, but 25 years ago 90% of the computers in the World were made by IBM. So the Mac really was revolutionary.
